A metropolitan university, this school is the largest college in Silicon Valley, offers over degrees and concentrations, and enrolls over 30, students each semester. Students who enter the nursing program at SJSU can expect to gain clinical experience under faculty supervision in local health care facilities. This course of study will also give the student a foundation in professional education, enhanced leadership skills, experience in nursing theory, and help develop professional relationships with others working in health care.
Students that have not yet been accepted into Pre-Nursing may enter the university as undecided majors. The instructors for the RN to BSN program were well-seasoned nurses that embedded invaluable personal experience into their lectures which really enriched my learning experience.
They also treated the RN to BSN students with a notable amount of respect that made me feel welcomed and almost like a young colleague. They were very understanding that most of us are working nurses and really made the program feel doable. If a student meets University General Education GE and nursing degree requirements, the program can be completed in three 3 semesters.
Curriculum includes limited in-person and off-campus community experiences and online theory courses that incorporate research, leadership and critical thinking skills. Degree requirements can be found in the university's catalog. Prior baccalaureate students are exempt from completing the SJSU studies areas R and V requirement for graduation students complete areas S and Z in nursing program. It is highly recommended prospective students attend a future student advising session to prepare for the application process.

For individuals who are new to the nursing profession, or for licensed practical nurses who wish to become registered nurses, the first step in becoming an RN is an entry-level training program.
LVN to RN programs are specifically designed with these vocational nurses in mind and build on their previous coursework and professional experience. ADN programs are generally two-year programs that prepare students to take the NCLEX licensing exam and for their first jobs as registered nurses.
This is considered the most basic registered nursing degree type. Chabot College offers an ADN program that is completed in four consecutive semesters excluding summers.
