There are two RF-style F connectors, which are the connecters that have the screw threads on the outside and the small hole inside. One is an antenna input and should be connected to the antenna using a coaxial cable. This means you can send analog video and audio from the DTT to your TV by connecting a coaxial cable. In addition to the F connectors, the DTT has a composite video output along with stereo RCA analog outputs--the standard yellow, red, and white outputs.
If your TV has the proper inputs, you should use this output as it offers superior audio and video quality over the RF connection.
Mostly everything you need to get the DTT is including in the box. There are two cables--an RF cable and a composite video cable with stereo audio cables. A single AAA battery for the remote is also included in the box. We haven't been able to test this functionality on any of the boxes yet, but the Smart Antennas we've seen are so expensive we find it hard to believe it's worth the money for connecting to such a bargain DTV box.
Some users will note that the DTT doesn't offer analog pass-through, meaning that it would still pass analog antenna signal to a TV. While this might be useful for analog signals broadcast this year, it's not that big of an omission since that feature will be essentially useless once the FCC shuts off analog signals in February Lastly, there are a few DTV boxes--such as the Channel Master CM --that feature an S-Video output, which can provide better video quality than that composite video.
This should only matter if you currently have a TV that has an S-Video input. Performance Reception performance on the DTT was solid. I've not encountered any product recently that works so simply and easily as zenith dtt does. I needed their help -- and we had it all done in under 10 minutes. I'm truly amazed by the high quality of the picture on my 27" Sharp with only simple rabbit ears plus this box.
I read most customer reviews of Zenith dtt and the others offered by BestBuy, CircuitCity and Target -- this was the clear winner based on these. Now that I have it hooked up, it's the clear winner for me.
I say unhesitatingly, BUY zenith dtt I'm buying a second one for bedroom TV before second coupon expires. After much research at AVSForum re selection, here is a quick summary of my own experiences. Some other ones are prone to: locking up requiring a reset, sound problems, running very hot, may be impossible to add channels manually, and have difficulties setting the aspect ratio such that the program fills the screen best. Setup is easy, sensitivity is great. With a set of rabbit ears I get stations from miles away see TVFool website for antenna directions and maps for your own area.
Picture Zoom is settable for each channel, box can turn off the TV, and has an independent volume control. There are a couple of small items not quite up to par: Program guide is VERY simple, only current program and NEXT program are described, power cord is only 5ft long, if you set the converter on top of a large tv on a stand, it has a hard time reaching a floor level outlet. Possible Solutions: 1. Have you done a channel scan yet when you connected your converter box?
To do an auto channel scan, go to your converter box menu guide by pressing the menu button on the remote , select options, and choose the auto-tune or auto channel scan feature. Have you connected an antenna to your converter box? Most converter boxes and TVs with a built-in digital tuner require an antenna receive digital signals. If you have an old set of bunny ears also known as a dipole antenna laying around the house, connect them to your converter box, and try another channel scan.
Possible Solution: 'Weak Signal, No Program, or No Signal are usually the boxes' way of conveying the signal is too weak, nonexistant, or the channel is 'off air' such as in the dawning hours in some areas. The same rule can apply as rain fade. For a list of stations in one's particular area with all stations from easiest to pull in to hardest, go to TV Fool - Home it's info is more detailed than that of Antennaweb.
Adding one last bit of info, after some time, or as the official transiton date looms, or post-transition, some channels may move to different RF-air channels, resulting in a no-signal from your current scans.
Thomas G Contributor Feb 20, Here's a good diagram for connecting a converter box with a VCR:. DTVuser Banned Feb 20, One can also use the RCA jacks in the back of the converter box to hook it up to a surround sound or home theater system as well. DTVuser Banned Mar 1, Happy to help.
